Red bell peppers have two key ingredients that make them excellent candidates for the kidney diet. Firstly, they’re low in potassium. Secondly, they contain the antioxidant lycopene which is well known to protect against some cancers. On top of that, they’re high in dietary fiber, vitamin C, vitamin B6, folic acid, and vitamin A. Furthermore, they’re absolutely delicious and versatile treats. They can be eaten raw. You can put them on a salad. You can roast them. You can stuff them. You can put them in an omelet. For those that are on the kidney diet already, red bell peppers should quickly become one of their favorite foods.
Cabbage contains phytochemicals which are well known to neutralize free radicals before they can cause serious damage to your cells. Foods with phytochemicals can help promote a this link healthy heart and prevent various forms of cancer. On top of that, they’re high in vitamin C, fiber, vitamin K, vitamin B6, and folic acid. Cabbage is also low in potassium.
Though cabbage may not be at the top of the list of most people’s favorite entrees, it is quite versatile as an ingredient, and can be served a variety of ways.
Cauliflower is another cruciferous veggie that is low in potassium. Additionally, it is a great source for vitamin C and fiber. It also is filled with several compounds that can help the liver neutralize toxic substances that can damage DNA and cell membranes. As an ingredient, cauliflower is quite versatile and goes great with a variety of sauces. It’s a natural absorber of other ingredients that surrounds it, and is tasty enough to eaten raw with a dip.
Just about any berry you can think of is good for you, but not all for the same reasons. Cranberries for instance protect against bladder infections, and protect the lining of the stomach. Blueberries are packed with antioxidants, and so are raspberries and strawberries, and each of these have a number of properties that help you protect yourself from the perils of oxidation.
